Zoran Kalabić, businessman and humanitarian. If it can be said of any of our people that they have achieved the Austrian and American dream, it is certainly Zoran Kalabić. This native of Paraćin, permanently based in Vienna and director of the real estate agency "4M", was named World Real Estate Champion at the International Business Conference in Las Vegas.

Kalabić knew how to celebrate this together with his brother Dragan and friends. Their company "4M" deals in real estate trading, while the citizens' association "Privileg" provides advisory services to Gastarbeiter.

In the display cases of the business office in the center of Vienna stand 20 trophies and diplomas from German, Austrian and American business associations, which have named Kalabić the best among equals in the Austrian capital.

– When I arrived in Vienna from Paraćin two and a half decades ago, I was involved in tourism and promoting Serbia's natural assets. After a brief foray into the world of gastronomy, I realized I could find my true calling in the world of real estate. I became an employee at the American company "Remax", a global company present in 87 countries, and achieved great turnover there, which led another American company, "Era Immobilien", to hire me immediately. For three consecutive years I had a turnover of several million euros, and that with a small number of employees in my branch. First I received an award of 100,000 dollars, and then titles, trophies and accolades – says Kalabić.

Hakbart Gottfried, director of the "ERA" Group for Austria, spoke enthusiastically about Zoran Kalabić when, seven years ago, he won the title of best in Germany and in Europe.

The Kalabić brothers – united siblings. – Mr. Kalabić has a fine sense for market trends. His predictions that real estate prices in Vienna and Austria would rise by up to 10 percent in the midst of the crisis proved to be accurate, and on this he built his business success. His agency sold real estate worth 45 million euros, which is 15 percent more than that of the other 40 of our directors. In New Orleans he was named the best broker – praised director Hakbart Gottfried.

None of this would have been possible had Zoran not had his older brother Dragan, with whom, on the principle of "united siblings", he built this house of success.

– I came to Austria for the first time in 1989. I got to know the city of Vienna, stayed there for three months and returned home. I came back again after some time and have stayed here to live to this day – begins his story, brother Dragan.

He was born in Vladičin Han. He attended primary and secondary school in Paraćin. He completed his higher education at the Textile College in Belgrade. He worked for eight years at the Woolen Fabrics, Garments and Knitwear Industry "Branko Krsmanović" in Paraćin.

– In Vienna in 2011, I completed a degree in Real Estate Management. Before that, as a young guest worker, I did various kinds of jobs. At the beginning of my career, I was employed at a casino as a currency exchanger. Together with my brother Zoran, I ran the nightclub "Karibik" for a full fifteen years. After that, we opened and ran the travel agency "Falkon turs". From 2005 to the present day, we have been the owners of the company "4M" with 200 employees – says Dragan, who bears an remarkable resemblance to his brother Zoran in appearance, spirit and character.

Zoran Kalabić was born in Paraćin. He completed his primary and secondary economics schooling in his hometown. In his youth he was an active boxer at BK "Kablovi" from Svetozarevo and was the Serbian champion in the welterweight category. He studied economics at the University of Belgrade and moved to Austria for work in 1994. Together with his brother, he was involved in entertainment at the nightclub "Karibik", in tourism through the agency "Falkon turs", and promoted the beauties of Serbia in Austria and Vienna.

He completed his studies in MBA Real Estate Management and became a broker, real estate manager, and together with his brother, a construction entrepreneur.

– We are involved in the construction, investment and sale of land and real estate – the united Kalabić brothers reveal to us.

– We offer a complete service to clients, legal advice, financing and property registration in the land register. The situation is stable. People are buying real estate. There is a large influx of foreigners and constant demand, so property prices are constantly rising. Interestingly, our people, originally from Belgrade, are buying real estate here in Austria for their children, mainly apartments.

Zoran says that at one point apartments in Vienna were cheaper than those in Belgrade, and that this attracted many business people who decided to live in the Austrian capital or to educate their children there.

Zoran Kalabić is a man who never stops learning. He holds two university degrees in economics, a master's degree in business, and is also preparing a doctorate.

– Around 300,000 of our people live in Austria, and it is impossible not to connect my business with the homeland. On several occasions I have promoted the Serbian economy, as well as culture, as our company has been a sponsor of many Serbian events. We organized a grand Entrepreneurs' Ball in Vienna, so that we could come together, celebrate, but also show that Serbia can count on us as businesspeople and patriots – says Zoran Kalabić sincerely.

Their business cooperation is brotherly, as Dragan puts it.

– My brother Zoran and I have always worked with money. Nothing has managed to undermine our immense mutual love and trust. I think the two of us are the best example of harmonious Serbian brothers from Hamburg to Greece. We have divided our roles. Zoran Kalabić is more responsible for public appearances, media statements and marketing. I am someone who has always stayed in the background and does not like to expose himself publicly. We get along excellently, complement each other and agree on everything. We celebrate Saint Nicholas Day and strive to spend the holidays together with our families.

The older brother Dragan is married and has a son and a daughter. His wife works in cardiology at the well-known Vienna University Hospital AKH. Both children are employed at the company 'Admiral'. His son is the head of 'Novomatic' betting shops, responsible for Vienna and Burgenland. The younger brother Zoran has three daughters and a son from two marriages.

The brothers Zoran and Dragan are very active in the Serbian community of Austria.

– When Paraćin was hit by floods a few years ago, my brother and I sent humanitarian aid to family in the form of money and goods. We are always ready to help others who are in need – emphasises Dragan.

Zoran Kalabić was a member of the Serbian Cultural Centre. The brothers cooperate with the cultural society 'Prosvjeta', help organise the Saint Sava Ball, the Saint Sava Academy, literary forums and the publication of books about Serbs in the diaspora. They are the main sponsors of humanitarian campaigns organised by the Serbian community and the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia.

– I assisted in the restoration of the Hilandar Monastery, the organisation of the Serbian Film Days festival, the renovation of a school in Paraćin, and the collection of aid for flood victims in Šumadija. We had problems at the time with associates in Serbia, because the aid consisting of six articulated lorries was not sent to the affected Paraćin and Ćuprija but to another city; even so, the aid reached our people – recalls Kalabić.

– Together with the leaders of the City of Vienna, I organised the donation of a fire engine and an ambulance vehicle to the City of Paraćin. I am engaged with the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia in developing the business diaspora, and in clubs of businesspeople of Serbian origin in Austria. I am a member of the Senate of the Economy of Vienna, Austria and Serbia. Together with Serbian representatives in the Vienna Parliament, I advocate for resolving the status of Serbs in Austria. I place great hopes in Prime Minister Sebastian Kurz, who is a close acquaintance of mine, as well as in Member of Parliament Nemanja Damnjanović, who regards me as his godfather, that they will do everything to improve the status of Serbs in Austria – lists Kalabić.

Dragan, as he says, is in principle not interested in politics, but believes that Hans-Christian Strache and Johann Gudenus have extended a hand of cooperation to Serbs and Serbia.
